Cycle for Willen Hospice this September

Posted 20th June 2019

Willen Hospice is inviting cycling enthusiasts to take part in their popular Sportive, Ride for Willen, on Sunday 1 September.

Last September, the Sportive saw over 250 participants take to their bikes for the event, raising almost £15,000 for the charity. This year organisers are excited to announce that there are four routes to choose from; 40 miles, 65 miles, and the new 85 miler, and Family 5 mile route for adults with children aged 7-14 years. Each route starts from Cranfield University, passing through the beautiful areas surrounding Milton Keynes, including the Woburn Abbey Estate and Aylesbury Vale.

Tracey Jago, Senior Events Fundraiser at Willen Hospice, said: “Ride for Willen offers something for all, whether they’re a novice rider, experienced cyclist, or a young family. We’ve planned some fantastic routes, marshalled by MK Grand Union Rotary Club, which include varied landscapes to both challenge riders and offer them attractive views along the way.”

Ride for Willen is open to individual cyclists or teams wishing to ride together. Riders will receive an electronic chipped bib, which will let them know their time straight after the event. Mechanical support will be provided along the way by Corley Cycles, there’ll be food stations on all routes apart from the Family 5, and a BBQ will be available for participants and supporters at the finish line.

Full GPX routes are available at www.willen-hospice.org.uk/rideforwillen. Registration is £29 for adults, £19 for those already registered in the 2019 Extra Mile Challenge. £14 for children aged 14-18 years old, £5 for children aged 7-14 years old, (all children must be accompanied by an adult), £10 for adult entry to the Family 5 mile route.

The Hospice is encouraging cyclists to raise additional sponsorship to help the charity reach the £4.7 million they need each year to continue providing free, compassionate care to local families.
