Don’t move, improve.

With many people being told to continue working from home for good or for part of the week at least, now is the time to add that little bit of extra space to your home to create a more functional ‘work’ area. Here, Steve Rawding, sales and marketing director at leading South East home improvement company SEH BAC, explains the options available to you to create the home office you crave.

While officially the government’s work-from-home guidance will remain in place until June 21 at the earliest, unofficially many people will be continuing to work from home well past that date.

By 2025, an estimated 70% of the workforce will be working remotely at least five days a month.

With work from home in the UK here to stay in some way, shape or form, home offices and additional space will be on the agenda for more homes around the country.

And if you fall into that category, the good news is there are several ways to create the home office space you want.

If you have been trying to work from your sofa or the kitchen table while family life continues around you, it sounds like it’s time to move to a designated working area.

A conservatory is the perfect way to create a separate space for some peace and quiet away from the rest of the family. Built using high-quality and durable materials to keep it at the optimum temperature and secure, it will be perfect to use all year round.

A new modern flat roof extension with flat skylights will also provide the perfect space for those looking to add style and simplicity to their extension in a more cost-effective way.

Of course, you may already have a conservatory which you are using as little more than storage space due to its poor thermal efficiency. Replacing your polycarbonate roof with a solid replacement will instantly transform it and keep it warm in the winter and cool all summer, making it perfect for home working whatever the season.

And if you have decided to put off moving home for the time being, then another benefit of adding extra space for a home office is that it will add value to your home when you do eventually sell.
