Egg-cited Pupils as Chicks Hatch in Time for Easter

It wasn’t long for pupils at Middleton School to wait before they witnessed the unforgettable sight of hatching chicks in their classroom. As part of their topic on life cycles, hatching kits were delivered to the school, which contained eggs and all the equipment needed for successful hatching and for the care of the baby birds, once free from their shells.

The 10 day ‘Incredible Eggs’ programme brought wildlife into the heart of the classroom and enabled the children to experience nature in action for themselves. Middleton School’s Headteacher Rachel Roberts said that the look of delight on each of the children’s faces when the chicks hatched is an experience they will remember for a long time. She added:

“Within days of the delivery of the eggs, the chicks started to hatch and the Foundation pupils were thrilled to observe them emerge from their shells. The children have thoroughly enjoyed caring for them, learning how to safely handle them and about what they eat and drink.”
