Giving comes in many guises!

The county’s favourite annual charity bike ride, Cycle4Cynthia, has raised almost £600k for Cynthia Spencer Hospice over its sixteen-year history, but that impressive total has not come solely from those on two wheels.

Indeed, a large chunk has been down to the generosity of local businesses, which have given either financially or, just as importantly, in kind, enabling the Hospice to offer its vital specialist care services to its patients and their families.

Among them is leading commercial law firm EMW, which has just announced that it will act as lead sponsor of the ride for the third year running.

Joy Vollans is CEO of the company, which has been providing solutions to meet clients’ needs in the county since 1992, and says they are thrilled to be extending their long-standing support of the event: “We are absolutely delighted to be headline sponsors again and of course, as we have done for several years, we’ll also be leaping into our saddles to take part in the ride itself” explained Joy.

“Whatever the weather, pedalling past the finishing line to the cheers of our colleagues, friends, families and the other riders is a fabulous feeling and knowing we’re raising funds for Cynthia Spencer whilst doing something we enjoy is brilliant, so we hope many more will join us!” she added.

Also pedalling in this year’s C4C, set to take place on Sunday 20th September at Lamport Hall, is Holdenby-based creative design agency Triad, which has generously donated thousands of pounds’ worth of its expertise for more than a decade by designing and overseeing the event’s website.

The company, which counts Peugeot, MAHLE Powertrain, RS Components and Northampton Saints among its clients, has a number of passionate pedallers in its team, so its support of the ride is an obvious partnership, as Marketing Director, Chris Timm, explains: “Triad really values the health and wellbeing of its staff and so, given that many of them are out in their lycra at weekends, it’s hardly surprising that Cycle4Cynthia is one of the first dates to get added to the company calendar” revealed Chris.

“Indeed, you don’t have to have direct experience of the Hospice to know what a remarkable place it is, so we consider it an absolute honour to be able to show our appreciation by providing our professional skills and giving it one less cost to have to think about” he added.

Cycle4Cynthia is the biggest fundraiser in the year for the Hospice and, with a day’s specialist palliative care for each individual patient in the inpatient unit costing £504, its fundraising manager, John Helm, says both companies’ generosity – and that of others – is absolutely invaluable: “We are incredibly grateful to EMW and Triad, not to mention those like them for, without their support, we simply wouldn’t be in a position to provide the vital, practical care we do, nor meet the emotional needs of those families touched by our work” said John.

“The Hospice has to find more than a million pounds each year so, whether you’re a business that can support us financially, feel you can donate your services or simply want to take part in our Bike4Bedtime challenge and raise £504 to fund one day of care for one patient, we would love to hear from you” he urged.

Cycle4Cynthia 2020 will take place on Sunday 20th September at Lamport Hall with 5, 25 and 50 mile routes on offer.

Proceeds from the ride will also help to fund the Hospice’s Wellbeing service, which aims to help those with a life-limiting illness to live their life as fully as they can by helping to maintain their physical function and independence for as long as possible.
