Samuel Squires, Head Chef at Hibiscus, has been named ‘Chef of the Year’ at the Weetabix Northamptonshire Food & Drink Awards 2020/21.

Hibiscus, the AA rosette-awarded restaurant which is based at Delapré Abbey in Northampton, has gone from strength to strength with Samuel’s carefully crafted dishes and innovative twist on fine dining.

Commenting on the award, Samuel Squires said:
“I am thrilled to receive gold for this year’s Weetabix Northamptonshire Food & Drink Awards Chef of the Year. It’s a great competition supporting local food and drink businesses in and around Northamptonshire which is something that we all need to do during these difficult times. Thank you to all of our guests for your continued support over the years. I look forward to getting back in the kitchen for Hibiscus’s upcoming Mother’s Day package and seeing you all again soon.”

Richard Clinton, Chief Executive of Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust, said:
“Everyone at Delapré Abbey is delighted that Sam Squires has been named Chef of the Year.

“This celebration coincides with the one-year anniversary of when the team at Hibiscus came and joined us here at Delapré Abbey. During this time, we’ve seen the passion and inventiveness that Sam puts into every one of his plates, and our customers have been thrilled by the experience that he delivers here. We can’t wait to welcome everyone back once restrictions ease.”

Samuel has worked in many top restaurants during his career, including the 5-star Grove Hotel in Watford, The Ritz in London, and the 3 Michelin-starred private restaurant, Remy. This latest recognition of ‘Chef of the Year’ firmly establishes him as a customer and critic favourite in the well-regarded Northamptonshire food and drink scene.

Hibiscus is part of the T.H.E Hospitality which operates a number of pubs, restaurants and cafés across Northamptonshire, including The Orangery and new deli ‘Common Ground’, both based at Delapré Abbey.

Until the doors reopen at Hibiscus in May, customers can enjoy the Hibiscus experience in the comfort of their own home with a Mother’s Day offer which elevates a traditional roast dinner, in addition to a range of exclusive dining experiences available to purchase at delapreabbey.org. Reservations for when Hibiscus reopens in May will begin 1st April 2021.
