Milton Keynes Rangers step up with doorstop delivery service for those in need

Jake Wilson and Wendy Searle work in the Great Linford Parish and are usually found tackling everything from graffiti and litter to overgrown bushes. But during the Coronavirus outbreak they have been even more hands-on in the community – and have so far delivered in excess of 600 food parcels to residents.

The parcels typically contain non-perishable goods; items like cereal, tins, beans, pasta and rice, and they have been distributed to those who have been hit hardest during these difficult times.

“Some people have been self-isolating and have no support network, and we have also helped the elderly and homeless, those who are unemployed and people in residential schemes,” said Wendy.

“We’ve delivered to many residents in the parish, but also to some outside of our area.

“People have made contact to ask for help directly, while others have been signposted to us by charities including CarersMK and Big Local.

“Residents have also been in touch with us to share details of people who could benefit from some support – and we have been more than happy to step up.”

The Great Linford Parish Council office has also remained open to help its community, and serves as a distribution point for families on pupil premium grants to collect lunches for their children until schools reopen.

Jake and Wendy have also taken numerous hot meals to those in need. More recently they have been delivering plants too, although that was unexpected!

“One generous resident from the parish bought some plants for us to distribute and share a little bit of joy. It was such a lovely gesture,” said Jake, “We have taken them to residential schemes that we deliver food parcels to, and they have been thrilled.

“We are living in unprecedented times just now, but it has been heartwarming to see the community pull together to make a difference. There have been so many small acts of kindness. It’s nice to be a part of something so positive and to know that we are able to make a difference to people,” Jake added.
