More MK50 fun at MK50 Showcase Exhibition and MK51 Open Weekend

Posted 14th January 2018

This time last year Milton Keynes was gearing up for a 12 month celebration of Milton Keynes’ 50th birthday – and it’s not over yet.

In 2017 communities across MK came together for local events, discovered the beginnings of the ‘New Town’ through exhibitions, cycle, ran and walked through the summer months, MK was honoured by a visit from HRH The Duke of Cambridge, and we danced to music in the rain at Feast of Fire.

Following the success of the birthday weekend last year, Living Archive MK have been busy organising another fantastic weekend of events, exhibitions, and open days for MK51 – MK’s official 51st birthday!  It may not have the same ring to it as MK50, but the 20 -23 January promises to be a weekend (plus Monday, Tuesday) of fun and discovery.  Bring the kids along for a Festive Road Open Day, learn about historic New Bradwell on a heritage walk, find something new for 2018 at a girl guiding open day, enjoy the MK51 Family Fun day at Woughton Leisure Centre, gain an insight into MK’s early days at talks and exhibitions, and much, much more. The full programme can be found here.

Throughout January and February, we’ll also be looking back at 2017 with an MK50 Showcase. The free exhibition has been designed to give a snapshot of what happened during 2017, and we hope it will spark your memories of a very busy year. The displays will feature elements from the amazing exhibitions, events and projects created and staged during the MK50 year to celebrate our unique city, and there’ll also be workshops taking place throughout the exhibition period. Don’t miss out – visit MK Central Library (upstairs) from January 18 – 22 February to relive MK’s fantastic 50th birthday. Find out more here.
