Transmitting live from the Islamic Centre in Coffee Hall, Ramadan FM helps connect Muslims across Milton Keynes and the world through our digital platforms and use of social media. Below is some more information about it which you may want to include. I hope this helps and that you will be able to feature it in the magazine.

Ramadan FM first transmitted live in 2009 and was based on the principles of creating community cohesion and a way in which Muslims could connect with one another in Milton Keynes and raise awareness of what Islam is about to non-Muslims during the Islamic Holy month of Ramadan, where Muslims fast from sunrise till sunset for 30 days.

Supported by Milton Keynes Muslim Association, the radio is managed and run by volunteers who are responsible for setting up all aspects of the radio for transmission, operating 24 hours a day 7 days a week throughout Ramadan. The content is a mixture of live shows run by volunteer presenters and pre-recorded material including Quran recitation, Islamic talks, Nasheeds as well as live transmissions of the night prayers and Friday congregational prayers called Jummah. It also plays the Adhan (call to prayer) at the 5 specific times during 24 hours of the day, helping to remind Muslims it’s time to pray as well as signalling the opening and closing of the Fast.

Over the years as technology has advanced, it’s been possible to add more listening options via digital platforms such as media apps, via the Ramadan FM website and also Facebook where we now stream shows live. This year in 2019 we are celebrating 10 years since RFM was first transmitted and is also listened to by people from other countries, providing isolated Muslims with the opportunity to connect with others. It’s a platform which can be used to make announcements such a community gatherings, collections for charities and also sponsored adverts where businesses can advertise their goods and services. It has proved to bring the community together hosting shows with Citizens MK, the Mayor of Milton Keynes and also covering national issues such as the General Election and Brexit.
