An award-winning Northampton curry house is looking for your coronavirus hero – with a year’s free food waiting for the winner.

Saffron, in Castilian Street, Northampton, is reopening on Sunday, April 12 following a temporary closure amid the COVID-19 outbreak and is celebrating by launching its new ‘Hunt for a Hero’ competition.

The restaurant is appealing for customers to nominate a key worker who has made a difference in the fight against the global pandemic, and is offering £500 worth of curry to the lucky winner.

Managing director Naz Islam said: “Whether it’s a doctor or a nurse, a binman, an ambulance driver or a shop assistant we want to celebrate all those who are putting their lives on the line to keep us safe during this outbreak.

“The dedication and commitment of these key workers has been incredible and we want to say thank you to someone who has gone above and beyond at this awful time. All of us know someone who is fighting on the frontline in the war against COVID-19 so we’re asking our customers to help us in our Hunt for a Hero.”

To nominate a key worker who you think deserves a year’s supply of award-winning curry, simply send a message through Saffron’s Facebook page with the name of the person you are nominating, your email address and a brief explanation of why you think they deserve to win.

Saffron reopened on Easter Sunday and again offered half price meals to all NHS and emergency services staff. Orders must be placed over the phone and are for collection only.

Free, contactless delivery is available on all full-price orders within five miles of the restaurant.

During the pandemic, Saffron has delivered free meals to Northampton General Hospital staff and donated produce to the Hope Centre and Northampton Night Shelter, both of whom are running short on supplies.

Saffron has also received a handwritten personal letter from Andrew Lewer, Conservative MP for Northampton South, thanking the restaurant for its efforts in supporting emergency services working during the coronavirus outbreak.
