Step into Spring with The Parks Trust and MKC ‘50 Walks for #MK50’

As we wave goodbye to winter and say hello to spring, what better time is there to head outside and get active? MK residents are invited to make the most of the warmer weather and take part in some of the 50 led walks on offer, created by The Parks Trust and Milton Keynes Council to celebrate the city’s 50^th birthday.

Spring is also a great time to explore the flora and fauna. These walks gives the people of MK the chance to explore the city’s beautiful and varied landscapes, and to also welcome back the blooming flowers, waking wildlife and the different species of birds returning from their winter migration.

Upcoming walks

The next walks in the programme are the MK Health Walks with the Lovat Fields and Whaddon groups (13 and 22 March respectively) exploring the beautiful areas of Willen and the peaceful Ouse Valley Park.

The Parks Trust’s hugely popular Walking Festival will also be returning. The highly anticipated festival will be showcasing 15 various walks across the city over the 13^th to 14^th May weekend, a perfect opportunity to get out in the fresh air.

To really embrace the warmer weather why not try The Parks Trust’s 25 mile Challenge Walk? This self-guided walk stretches across the city’s parkland, with a downloadable map available at www.theparkstrust.com

Julie Dawes, Events and Recreational Co-ordinator for The Parks Trust, commented: “We are incredibly fortunate to have such a varied landscape in Milton Keynes, with stunning parks, woodlands and lakes right on our doorstep. As we celebrate such an important milestone in the city’s history, we wanted to work with the council to encourage people to get outside and explore their beautiful surroundings. Now the weather is warming up, we’d urge people to head outside and join us on one of our many walks.”

Booklets for the Spring/Summer edition of the programme can still be collected from locations around the city including the visitor centre, MK Council offices, MK Libraries, Education Centres at Howe Park Wood and Linford Lakes Nature Reserve, and The Parks Trust head office in Campbell Park. The booklet can also be downloaded from www.theparkstrust.com and www.mk50.co.uk. The second booklet is due to be published in July 2017.
