The Black Horse Launches Special Summer Dish for Sports Traider

Posted 20th June 2017

The Black Horse in Woburn is following in the footsteps of its sister pub The Embankment in Bedford by launching a special summer dish for Sports Traider to help young local youngsters fulfil their sporting potential.

The pub has created a seasonal superfood salad which appears on its new summer menu which has just launched, and for every one it sells, it will make a donation to Sports Traider.

The charity is a local youth-focused organisation offering kids the kit and support they need to get into sport, whatever their background.  It was founded by Lance Haggith who for the past three years has turned to businesses like The Embankment to enlist the help of its guests to raise vital funds.

Now, whenever a guest orders a superfood salad, The Black Horse will put 25p into a fund to be used either for specific projects or to help pay for a major campaign this year. The salad is made with beetroot, goats’ cheese, broccoli, sugar snaps and seeds with a zingy lemon dressing, a taste of summer on a plate.

“The work that Lance and his team at Sports Traider do to help talented youngsters achieve their sporting dreams is amazing and we are honoured to be one of their partners and help even more young people from the area get the breaks they deserve,” says Bernard Valapinee, general manager of The Black Horse in Woburn.

“We’ve come up with a truly delicious dish on our new summer menu that’s packed with goodness and by having it, you’ll not only get a plate that tastes fantastic, you’ll also be supporting a fantastic cause,” he says.  “It’s highlighted on the new menu and you can have it for starter or main course and do your bit no matter how hungry you are!”

Lance Haggith, founder of Sports Traider says, “We rely on successful partnerships with local businesses to change the lives of youngsters in the community who need a step up.  After benefiting from The Embankment’s support and seeing some incredible success stories, it’s great to be able to welcome The Black Horse into the fold and have their guests on side.

“Come and join them and together we can give even more young people a sporting chance,” Lance adds.
