Things to do this October Half Term with The Parks Trust

As we wave goodbye to summer and say hello to autumn it doesn’t mean that the fun has to stop! Autumn is a magical time of year in the parks as the trees turn from green to yellow to red and you can enjoy crisp walks whilst crunching through leaves.

The Parks Trust, the charity that cares for over 6,000 acres of parkland across Milton Keynes still have plenty of outdoor activities for you to take part in over the October half term, join them at different locations across the city and make the most of your half term.

Do you know a 9 to 12-year-old who is interested in the natural world and would like to get hands-on experience in conservation projects and wildlife surveys? Secure them a place on The Parks Trust’s upcoming Nature Day session at Linford Lakes Nature Reserve on Wednesday 27 October. This action-packed day with the Outdoor Learning team will feature a variety of activities such as: discovering tracks and trails: foraging; hunting mini-beasts; habitat surveys; pond dipping; creating mini-habitats and bird identification. The session will also give them the opportunity to meet new friends, learn new skills and get excited by the natural world.

Something strange is going on in Great Linford Manor Park and not for the first time, magic is afoot! This October half term the park will host Autumn Stories in the park and will be abound with folktales, histories and stories of Great Linford Manor Park and the surrounding area, including the wonderous Richard Napier, astrological physician, charm caster and potion maker. These outdoor stories are suitable for all ages and last approximately 45 minutes so pull up a chair and join the fun.

Although sold out, The Parks Trust will also be holding their sort-after event, the Spooky Halloween trail, where daring participants venture into the woods at Campbell Park for a frightful evening as they tour the terrifying trail. Usually at Howe Park Wood this event is taking place at Campbell Park this year.

On Tuesday 26th and Thursday 28th October you will be able to visit Howe Park Wood as it opens its doors once again for the school holidays. Visit the education centre, discover the artefacts within, take part in craft activities and pick up the nature trail that helps you to explore the woodland.
