MK Lit Fest: Dreams into Fiction: Flash Fiction Workshop with Jude Higgins (Zoom event)
Posted 15th October 2023Everyone – quite literally – has dreams, and they can be a rich source of inspiration for storytellers. Do the landscapes of your dreams shift with the seasons? Whether you live in the country or the city, do your dreams often take place in the streets or houses where you live or lived?
For years, Jude Higgins dreamed about the house where she grew up. Those dreams provided her with excellent prompts for the stories eventually published in her flash fiction pamphlet, The Chemist’s House (V. Press, 2017).
In this workshop we will look at several different ways to create short fictions from dreams – either current, or recurrent. If you don’t remember dreams, no matter. Jude will show you how to use an event from the day, as if it were a dream, At the end of the workshop you will come away with three flash fiction drafts, plus ideas on how to work on them to make finished stories, and suggestions on where to send for publication. (This might, of course, include MK Lit Fest’s Dreams for Midwinter event!)
