Off the Record charity shop chosen for ‘Record Store Day’ venue

Posted 21st March 2024

Record Store Day is an annual event where independent record shops come together to celebrate people’s love of music with limited releases. This year Record Store Day will be on Saturday 20th April and Off The Record, located in Midsummer Place, Milton Keynes has been selected to be part of this worldwide event.

Off the Record is a specially curated shop by Willen Hospice, selling pre-loved and new vinyl records to raise funds for the charity. They will be celebrating the day by selling limited releases and live music in store. The centre will open at 6am if people want to arrive early and the shop will open from 8am. The shop will be managing the queue and admittance will be limited to ensure people have space to browse.

Each customer will be allowed to buy one copy of each LP and a list of stock will be updated throughout the day. There will still be the normal range of pre-loved and new music and accessories as well for customers to browse, but when the records are gone, they are gone.

Leila Blaize-Smith, Willen Hospice Retail Lead for New Shops said, “We are excited and proud to be the first charity shop to ever take part in Record Store Day. It is a really challenging for charities at the moment, which is why we’ve had to be innovative with how we raise almost £6 million every year to fund specialist, compassionate care for the community.

“Part of that innovation has been opening bespoke shops, and we have been overwhelmed by the success of our music store which only opened in Midsummer Place in August last year. We couldn’t have done it without the support of our amazing community and we are looking forward to welcoming them on Record Store Day.”

Simon Martin, General Manager for Midsummer Place said: “We’re excited to be celebrating Record Store Day with our retailer, Off The Record. The store has already experienced excellent trade since being in Midsummer Place and this internationally celebrated event will truly put the store on the map. We invite everyone to join us on April 20th for a day filled with exclusive releases, live music, and a shared passion for making a difference.”
