A positive future for shopping destination intu MK

Posted 7th April 2021

Following confirming from the government that non-essential retail can open on 12 April, intu Milton Keynes shopping centre looks forward to a positive and bright future.

After a year of change and uncertainty for us all, Shelley Peppard, general manager at intu Milton Keynes, now looks ahead with hope and excitement for the centre and its visitors.

She says: “Once our centre reopens for non-essential shopping, intu Milton Keynes will safely welcome back its shoppers, as we have done before. We are expecting to maintain the safety measures, such as wearing a face covering, but we are hopeful this is the beginning of the end. Now is the time to focus on the positives and we have lots to be excited about in Milton Keynes.”

With non-essential shopping expected to resume on Monday 12 April, indoor dining is due to follow soon after on Monday 17 May. Once this happens, visitors of the centre will once again be able to shop at leisure, enjoy their coffee catch up with friends, tuck into lunch at one of the centre’s foodie spots and enjoy time out of the house with their family.

In 2020, intu Milton Keynes welcomed the new Next Beauty & Home store alongside Blue Inc and their successful Indie Collective pop-up, which supported local independent businesses in the run up to Christmas.

There are new retailers, one of which is SD by Suit Direct Milton Keynes, and more to come, which will bring further excitement to the centre and give people a wider variety of fashion brands and food outlets. intu Milton Keynes has also been working hard to secure events and attractions to the centre to encourage people to visit, details of which will be announced soon.

“As well as retail returning, we’re hoping that the gradual easing of the restrictions will allow us to reintroduce some of our fantastic events to the centre,” Shelley adds.

“We know how popular they are and how they have been missed so we’re keen to bring them back when it’s safe to do so. We’re currently working on ideas and plans and will be announcing these as the year moves forward – we’re especially excited at the thought of bringing back our large sale events, Half Term activities and popular Etsy markets.”

Shelley adds: “With so much to look forward to in the coming months, myself and the team at intu Milton Keynes will be delighted to welcome you back to the home of premium shopping at the heart of Milton Keynes. Once the shopping centre is back open and we’re able to go out, our retailers will need your support more than ever, so please come out and let us remind you of what you’ve been missing.”

“I’d like to say a big ‘thank you’ to everyone who has supported us throughout and played their part in helping to keep everyone safe over the past year. We ask that if you need to make a visit for essential services that you continue to wear a face covering, remain socially distanced at all times and make use of our hand sanitising units around the centre.”
