Crest Nicholson releases time-lapse video showing construction of new Campbell Wharf Marina

Posted 5th October 2020

Time-lapse footage showing the Campbell Wharf Marina being built has been released. The new marina forms an integral part of Campbell Wharf, an exciting new canal-side destination being developed by Crest Nicholson with Milton Keynes Development Partnership (MKDP) in Milton Keynes and opened to the public in May 2019. The impressive 111 berth marina, which has been acquired by the Parks Trust, provides a whole new offering for Milton Keynes, creating a destination for boaters and canal users with its direct access onto the Grand Union Canal.

The time-lapse, which spans over 45 weeks, reveals how the 110,000m³ of Oxford clayexcavated from the housing side of the development was used to shape the marina, shows the 500 metres of sheet piling being installed and later 25,000 cubic metres of water from the Grand Union Canal is used to fill the marina.

A new Milton Keynes community trip boat, to be run by the Bedford & Milton Keynes Waterways Trust and in part funded by Crest Nicholson’s S106 contributions for the development, is currently being built and will be based at Campbell Wharf from 2021, bringing another brand new offer to the Milton Keynes community.

Peter Cusdin, Development Director at Crest Nicholson, said: “We are delighted to be able to share this impressive footage which shows the new marina being created. The marina is a central part of the new Campbell Wharf community, and its creation is a fantastic example of how something very special can be achieved by working collaboratively with local partners.”

Matthew Green, MKDP’s Property Development Director, said: “Campbell Wharf Marina is such a key part of this exciting new development, bringing a fantastic new leisure facility right into the heart of the city. It’s also indicative of MKDP’s strategy of creating vibrant places in MK where people can work, live and relax.”

Ben Allott, Head of Property for the Parks Trust, said: “We are really pleased with how Campbell Wharf Marina has performed in its first year and how well it sits within the larger Crest Nicholson development which is an exciting scheme.

The marina itself offers boat owners high quality facilities and is ideally located close to Central Milton Keynes with all its amenities. Campbell Wharf Marina also links directly into Milton Keynes’ extensive park network making it a great place for those who love urban and rural.”

Neil Warren, Director at Land & Water Estates, said: “As contractors that have been involved in Campbell Wharf Marina from its design to its construction, and now management, it’s fantastic to see in video form how this project came to life. The marina was created to an extremely high standard in a beautiful area of land, to offer boaters a unique mooring experience that provides them with everything they need from wi-fi to modern chandlery and glass reinforced plastic covered jetties. Working on behalf of The Parks Trust to manage Campbell Wharf has been a pleasure, especially when getting to see the number of boaters who have benefited from the marina’s exclusive services.”
