Milton Keynes – It’s nearly time to wrap up warm, gather the family, and head out to the much-anticipated Milton Keynes Christmas Lights Switch-On! On Saturday, 16th November, from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM, the car park next to The Point will be transformed into a festive wonderland, setting the scene for a magical start to Christmas.
Every year, this beloved event, organised by MyMK, brings the community together to celebrate the start of the season with an evening of live performances, festive treats, and, of course, the dazzling lights themselves. It’s grown so popular that this year’s celebration has moved from outside Midsummer Place to a larger space, promising more sparkle and spectacle than ever before.
The fun kicks off with the sounds of the St Bernadette’s School Choir and the ever-lively Milton Keynes Rock Choir. Then, panto fans are in for a treat with Peter Pan stars Max Fulham and Gordon the Monkey taking to the stage for some light-hearted fun. But the main event comes when local star and Britain’s Got Talent finalist Mike Woodhams brings his incredible singing impressions to wow the crowd. Joined by none other than Father Christmas himself, Mike will lead the countdown to the big switch-on, followed by a sensational fireworks display lighting up the City Centre skies.

“This year, we’re going all out to make the Christmas lights switch-on bigger and better than ever,” says MyMK. “We’ve moved to a larger space to welcome even more of the community to join us as we kick-start the festive season.”
But the lights switch-on is only the beginning. Once those twinkling lights are shining, the City Centre becomes your go-to destination for Christmas shopping, seasonal events, and festive cheer:
- Santa’s Grotto at centre:mk: From 15th November, bring the kids along to meet Santa and his newest reindeer, Norbert, in a heartwarming grotto experience open until Christmas Eve. Perfect for making lasting Christmas memories!
- Peter Pan Pantomime at MK Theatre: The classic adventure hits the stage from 6th December to 5th January, starring Craig Revel Horwood as Captain Hook and Max Fulham as Smee. It’s a fantastic family day out with laughs, thrills, and plenty of panto magic.
- Christmas Tree Festival at Midsummer Place: Launching on 16th November, the festival invites local businesses to decorate beautiful Christmas trees in the hopes of winning shoppers’ votes. Proceeds from the festival go to local charities, spreading a bit of goodwill while adding to the festive décor.
- Molly O’Reilly’s Irish Pub Pop-Up: From 29th November to 28th December, the car park next to The Point will be transformed into an Irish pub like no other! With live music, hearty food, and festive drinks, this immersive winter wonderland brings Dublin charm to Milton Keynes.
And with extended opening hours in the City Centre, you’ll have more time to browse the shops and tick off those Christmas lists. Whether it’s designer finds at John Lewis, beauty treats from Harrods Beauty, or gifts from the soon-to-open Flannels, there’s something for everyone. When you’re ready for a break, pop into one of the many restaurants or cafes offering special seasonal menus and warming winter cocktails.
