Local adoption agency celebrates ‘Big Adoption Day’
Posted 21st March 2017Following the success of last year’s inaugural event, local independent adoption agency St. Francis’ Children’s Society (SFCS) will once again be joining other agencies across England to celebrate Big Adoption Day, on Wednesday 29th March.
That day, independent adoption agencies across England will be opening their doors simultaneously to enquiring adopters, and hosting a national adoption information evening.
Big Adoption Day events are open to anyone who may be considering building a family through adoption – regardless of age, race, cultural background, religion, marital status or sexual orientation.
The special information event at SFCS will enable prospective adopters to gain a better understanding of the adoption process, and the particular needs of the children who are in care awaiting adoption. Attendees will also hear about real adoption experiences from an existing SFCS adopter, and learn about the extensive range of support services SFCS provide to help children thrive and families bond. There will be lots of opportunities to ask questions and speak privately to a social worker if needs be.
Alison Miller, CEO of SFCS said: “Many of the 2,000 children currently awaiting adoption are sadly deemed ‘hard to place’. Children over the age of four, sibling groups of two or more, children with disabilities or additional needs, and children from black and minority ethnic backgrounds all wait longer in the care system before families are found for them.
“On Big Adoption Day, we’re asking people from all walks of life to consider if they could provide love, security and permanency to a vulnerable child.”
There aren’t many decisions that will change your life forever; adopting a child is one of them. If you’re considering adoption, why not go along to the SFCS Big Adoption Day info evening: 6.30pm – 8pm, Wednesday 29th March, at Collis House, 48 Newport Road, Woolstone, MK15 0AA.
