Set within a beautiful 17th century chapel, Calcutta is one of the most highly celebrating and accoladed restaurants in the country. Recently under new management and celebrating after receiving the highest hygiene rating of 5 stars, 

Calcutta Brasserie has a long-standing reputation for providing exceptional Indian cuisine, and this latest achievement is a reflection of the restaurant’s unwavering commitment to delivering quality food in a safe and hygienic environment. The owners of the restaurant have worked tirelessly to upgrade their facilities, making significant changes to the kitchen and undertaking structural modifications to the historic building that houses the restaurant. 

With an investment of £25,000 in improvements, the changes made to the kitchen included installing new equipment and upgrading existing appliances to ensure the highest standards of food preparation and hygiene. The structural changes made to the building included updating the ventilation system and installing new flooring and wall coverings, all of which are designed to maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the restaurant.

Staff have also received additional training and achieved their level 2 in hygiene. 

Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Ali, the owner of Calcutta Brasserie, said, “We are thrilled to have received a five-star hygiene rating from the FSA. Our team has worked incredibly hard to upgrade our facilities, and this rating is a testament to their dedication and commitment to ensuring that our customers can enjoy our food in a safe and clean environment.”

 He added, “We take food hygiene very seriously, and we believe that it is essential to the success of our business. We are proud to have achieved this prestigious rating and will continue to strive for excellence in everything we do.”

Now, the restaurant is putting plans in place to reveal a new menu, announce exciting new events and entertainment in the coming months. 

For now, guests can enjoy a wonderful array of weekly offers including the hugely popular Sunday Family Style Dining – a stunning feast experience that’s been created for sharing with the family. A traditional family dining style from the homes of South Asia that is a great way to enjoy a delicious meal, alongside your favourite people. We will serve each dish at the table for all diners to share. Priced at £21.95 per person (under 10s £9.95).

Here are a few dishes to tickle your tastebuds:

Naazuk Murgh – Tandoori chicken thighs are bursting with flavours. Marinated in yogurt and seasoned with spices, wonderfully tender and juicy

Methi Aloo Saag – Spiced new potato cooked with spinach, fresh fenugreek and spring onion.

Butter Chicken – Tandoor grilled tikka chicken simmered in satin smooth tomato gravy made with juices of the roasted tikka in a makhni masalla sauce
