Don’t miss the Willen Hospice Cycle Sportive this September
Posted 11th August 2023Willen Hospice is inviting cycling enthusiasts to take part in their popular Cycle Sportive on Sunday 3rd September. The event is kindly sponsored by Mercedes-Benz Financial Services and supported by Broughton Cycling Group (BCG).
This year there are three new routes to choose from; 35 miles, 65 miles, and a 100 miler. Each route starts from The Good Gym MK, in Kiln Farm, heading out into the countryside, passing through the beautiful areas surrounding Milton Keynes.
The Cycle Sportive is open to individual cyclists or teams wishing to ride together. There will be food and water stations on all routes to keep cyclists energised and hydrated. Corley Cycles will be providing mechanical support at the start/finish, as well as support vehicles along the routes. Every participant will receive an exclusive Willen Hospice Sportive finisher’s medal on the day, and a volunteer photographer will be there on the day to take some action shots! The Good Gym MK are also kindly offering free indoor training rides every Wednesday for all Cycle Sportive participants, up until the date of the event.
The charity is asking all Sportive participants to try and raise £100 to help fund specialist palliative care and support for local families. The top fundraiser will be awarded a ‘King/Queen of the Fundraising’ jersey as a thank you.
Katrina Walsh, Senior Events Fundraiser at Willen Hospice, said: “Our Cycle Sportive offers something fun and challenging for both leisure and competitive cyclists. We have planned some fantastic routes, marshalled by MK Grand Union Rotary Club, which include varied landscapes to both challenge riders and offer them scenic views along the way.”
Fran Hayes, BCG Captain, said: “Over the years many BCG riders, including myself, have been eager participants in the Willen Hospice Sportive. With the Hospice being BCG’s official charity and the Sportive taking place on local roads, it felt completely natural for us to offer our support in helping organise and grow the event. BCG is proud to be involved.”
Registration is £35 per person for all routes. Visit www.willen-hospice.org.uk/sportive to book.
