Major public art project launching in Oxley Park

Posted 2nd February 2017

Milton Keynes’ public art is one of the city’s iconic features and now collaborative artistic practice, Something & Son has been appointed to deliver the Oxley Park Public Art Commission. As a welcoming event, Something & Son will host a Milton Keynes and Oxley Park Quiz for everyone to enjoy.

Oxley Parks’ community are invited to channel their inner Henry Moore, Dorothy Annan, and other renowned artists to contribute to developing a proposal for a major public art project, due to be delivered in 2018. To get the creative juices flowing, Something & Son will be developing and delivering a number of activities for everyone to take part in to share ideas, thoughts and opinions over the next four months.

The project aims to encourage social cohesion and community development, provide cultural provision for young people and contributes to a sense of place – encouraging civic pride and active citizenship, with a particular focus on the use of green space and local woodland.

The Oxley Park Public Art Commission was developed by Milton Keynes Council’s Public Art Unit and the Oxley Park Commission Steering Group.

The welcoming quiz will be held on Thursday 9 February, 6-8pm at The Oxley Park Community Centre. The artists will host this family event which will test local knowledge and offer an opportunity to learn more about future activities and the wider commission.

The quiz is free for all, food and drink will be provided and there are a number of fantastic prizes to be won.

If you would like to take part, please email Oxleyparkpublicart@gmail.com to book a place.
