MK Gallery launches search for MK Young Painter

Posted 28th October 2019

MK Gallery are searching for pioneers of paint with MK Young Painter, a competition for aspiring young artists to uncover new possibilities for painting.

Applicants can submit paintings produced using any kind of paint, on any support or surface and using any style or technique; including digital methods.

All shortlisted paintings will be on display in a special exhibition at MK Gallery in June 2020, ending with a special celebration event where there will be commendations from each category and one overall winner crowned as MK Young Painter.

Victoria Mayes, Head of Learning at MK Gallery said: “This is an exciting opportunity for young artists to have their work displayed in MK Gallery’s Project Space in 2020.

“With one of the most famous English painters George Stubbs showing at MK Gallery this winter,  we thought it would be the perfect time to encourage young people to pick up a paintbrush and explore the world of mark-making. For MK Young Painter whether it’s on the wall, off the wall or digital – anything goes!“

MK Gallery are working with Vertigo VR based at the Theatre District, to help provide young people an opportunity to explore digital forms of painting.

Alex Lurie from Vertigo VR said: “We’re incredibly excited to be working with MK Gallery on MK Young Painter and seeing how virtual reality can help young people look at painting in a new way”

The deadline for entry is Friday 3 April 2020. For full details on how to enter, visit www.mkgallery.org/youngpainter
