If you’ve ever wondered what the Northamptonshire countryside would sound like if it picked up a harp and started composing, here’s your chance to find out.

On Thursday 3 July, much-loved local musician Nick Penny returns to Stanwick Lakes for an evening where music and nature become beautifully intertwined. Described by audiences as “absolutely unique, absolutely wonderful”, Nick’s performances are unlike anything else you’ll experience this summer.

A writer, composer, musician and wildlife recordist, Nick has spent more than 40 years exploring the sounds of the Nene Valley. Armed with a harp, handpan and an extraordinary library of locally recorded birdsong, he creates immersive performances that celebrate the wildlife right on our doorstep.

Cuckoos, blackbirds and nightingales all feature in his work, with hundreds of hours of recordings gathered across Northamptonshire woven seamlessly into his music. The result is part concert, part conversation and part love letter to the natural world.

At a time when many of us spend more hours staring at screens than trees, Nick’s performances offer something refreshingly different. They invite audiences to slow down, listen carefully and reconnect with the sights and sounds that often go unnoticed.

With the unmistakable call of the cuckoo echoing around Stanwick Lakes once again this year, there’s no better setting to experience music inspired by the landscape itself.

The evening begins at 7pm, with food available beforehand for anyone wanting to enjoy supper overlooking the lake. Previous performances have sold out, so booking early is highly recommended.
