He’s back — and he’s heading straight for the stage! This December, Stick Man, the beloved character from Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s best-selling book, is taking up residence at The Stables in Milton Keynes for a magical Christmas run.

“Stick Man lives in the family tree
With his Stick Lady Love
and their stick children three…”

What starts as a simple morning jog quickly turns into a wild adventure for our wooden hero — from being chased by an overexcited dog to becoming part of a swan’s nest (and even ending up on a fire!). The big question is: will Stick Man ever make it home in time for Christmas?

Performances will run from Tuesday 16 December to Sunday 4 January, bringing the story’s warmth and whimsy to life for audiences of all ages.

This award-winning adaptation from Freckle Productions — the creative team behind Zog and Zog and the Flying Doctors — promises plenty of laughter, live music, puppetry and, of course, those signature Donaldson rhymes that children love to join in with. Expect toe-tapping tunes, giggles galore, and a heartwarming tale that’ll have little ones cheering Stick Man all the way home.

Julia Donaldson, the author behind The Gruffalo and Room on the Broom, has become a festive staple in homes across the world. Her stories, beautifully illustrated by Axel Scheffler, have sold over 75 million copies and been translated into more than 100 languages — and Stick Man remains one of her most enduring family favourites.

Tickets are on sale now and can be booked online at stables.org or by calling 01908 280800. The show is suitable for children aged 3 and over, and each performance runs for around an hour — just long enough to keep even the wriggliest little ones enchanted.

So, grab your tickets, wrap up warm, and get ready to join Stick Man on his festive journey back to the family tree. It’s the perfect Christmas outing — full of laughter, adventure, and just a little bit of sparkle.
