Business is a piece of (anniversary) cake

A Milton Keynes entrepreneur celebrated his 44th year in business at the same time as the city marked its 50th anniversary. In honour of MK's anniversary, a 50cm diameter cake was baked, with 50 pieces shared out to Bucks Biz Business Centres' clients at the iCentre in Newport Pagnell. Bucks Biz owner Joe Muscat said: “Our success in reaching 44 years is only possible because we are in Milton Keynes and it is a pleasure to toast this fantastic place.” The three Bucks Biz Business Centres across the city are home to more than 300 businesses that rent office and studio space on short and long term licences. “We have all kinds of businesses here,” said Joe. “So when I typed in “cake” to our internal directory, up popped Caketastic Ltd and they did a fantastic job for us. “We rent space to businesses from one person to 100 person..

Couple leads UK consumer fight against Big Six energy firms

A UK couple is so fed up with the Big Six energy firms’ contempt for customers that they want consumers across Britain to ‘chip in’ and help start a new, transparent energy company through crowdfunding. The charge is being backed by a number of senior business people, including former chair of Gleneagles Hotel, Peter Lederer OBE. British consumers who are tired of the big energy companies’ relentless price hikes, lack of transparency and poor customer service now have the chance to create an energy company with a difference. David Pike and Karin Sode are leading their team to crowdfund over £450,000 and make Our Energy operational in 2017. The new energy company will not only give 75% of profits back to customers, but customers will also be represented on the board of directors. Our Energy will share salaries, decisions, accounts and prices with customers, becoming the first completely transparent and..

From the nurseries of Milton Keynes to the rooftops of London

The Bridgman & Bridgman story started back in the 1970s when horticulturalist Neil Bridgman and his wife relocated to Milton Keynes to work for the visionary Milton Keynes Development Corporation. Neil worked on the tree nursery at Milton Keynes Village and his young son, Chris, would soon join him in his passion for horticulture. From the age of about five Chris would spend weekends and school holidays working alongside his father: “Those childhood memories really inspired me to go and study horticulture after I left school.” After working together for numerous years, the father-and-son team made the decision to venture out on their own, establishing Bridgman & Bridgman LLP in 2006. Chris says it’s a pleasure to be based in his hometown of Milton Keynes: “It really is the city of trees, and the city is so well-maintained with green space and biodiversity being a top priority. It’s amazing how..

What is crowdfunding? A seminar for business leaders

Business leaders in Milton Keynes are being invited to a free seminar on the new way to fund business growth. Corporate finance broker, Business Finance Services Ltd, has enlisted the support of representatives from leading UK Crowdfunding platforms ThinCats, Crowdcube and Archover to take part in an instructional seminar at The Doubletree by Hilton Hotel at The Stadium MK home of the MK Dons, on the afternoon of Thursday 2nd March 2017. BFS managing director, Peter Douglas, said: “Since the recession, banks have, understandably become more risk averse, which leaves a large gap in the marketplace for small and medium-sized businesses seeking finance for start-up, growth and acquisition. Crowdfunding – essentially, groups of investors getting together via Internet platforms to invest collectively in specific business opportunities - goes a long way towards plugging this gap. The problem is that many people have heard of Crowdfunding but not that many know..

Carey Pensions named the pensions provider of choice to the Federation of Fish Friers

Milton Keynes, UK – As small business owners in the UK prepare to commence their employee pension auto-enrolment schemes, one firm has the endorsement of a very British group of individuals: the country’s Federation of Fish Friers. Carey Corporate Pensions Ltd, based in Milton Keynes, is thrilled and honoured to be the pensions provider that the chippies trust most. Since 1913, the Federation of Fish Friers has provided training, quality control and camaraderie to the best chip shops across the United Kingdom, and they don’t stand for poor service. Choosing an official pensions provider meant that they had to find a firm that provides quality services that their members can rely on and trust, and the employees can know that their savings for retirement is in safe hands. “Business owners across the country are currently in the process of setting up workplace  pension schemes that they will auto-enrol  their employees..
