The Parks Trust, the self-financing charity that organises and enables over 500 events and activities in its parks each year, is busy preparing for Big Doggie Do, which will be held at Willen Lake over the bank holiday weekend, Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th May 2018. This hugely popular event has been extended to cover two days for 2018, with shows, charity stalls and activities for all dog lovers to enjoy. Best of all, it is free for everyone to attend. The MK Bike Show returns to Milton Keynes this year for a celebration of all things motorcycling. With exhibitors including local bike dealers, training organisations, bike clubs and bike tour organisers, whatever your interest in bikes there’s something for everyone. And best of all, the event, which takes place 10am – 4pm on Sunday 8th July at the MK Dons Stadium, is free to enter with free parking! There will be 15 walks held throughout the weekend, located at different locations across the city, giving people the opportunity to explore somewhere new and enjoy Milton Keynes’ beautiful and inspiring landscapes. The Heritage of Loughton Valley walk on Saturday 12th May at 2pm is sure to be a real highlight. This four-mile walk starts at Bancroft’s Roman Villa and then tours through the North Loughton Valley, exploring its rich history. Well behaved dogs are also welcome on this walk. It’s one of the most talked about and anticipated new openings in Milton Keynes, the launch of Popworld finally arrived in style at the weekend.  Hundreds of people snapped up tickets to the VIP opening weekend, which was a complete sell-out and saw queues of eager clubbers queuing around the block. Commercial property consultancy Kirkby Diamond has hailed a marketing drive, which has attracted a dance school and a recording studio to the Old Bus Station in Milton Keynes, a huge success.  Nick Bosworth, surveyor at Kirkby Diamond’s Milton Keynes office, was appointed by Milton Keynes Development Partnership (MKDP) to attract new occupiers with a focus on community activities to the facility in Elder Gate.  Romeo Dance Academy, which has created the town’s first competition-standard ballroom, has moved into new facilities in the town. It will provide a wide range of performing arts classes, including dance, wheelchair dancing, having signed a 10-year lease for 3,460 sq ft of space on the first floor.  Kirkby Diamond also helped MKDP to agree terms with independent record label New Money Recordings, which will open recording facilities and offer qualifications in music technology and production. Shoppers were given the chance to climb aboard a full-size dragon boat and beat the drum at intu Shopping Centre in Milton Keynes on Saturday. The display was to promote the 17th Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival and visitors to the Centre were able to sit in the boat, try the paddles for size and enjoy a taste of this year’s Festival dished up by organisers Gable Events and new charity partner MacIntyre. The 2018 Milton Keynes Dragon Boat Festival takes place at Willen Lake on Saturday 23rd June and over 50 teams are expected to battle it out on the 200-metre course, cheered on by their supporters with lots of bankside activities to enjoy between races. A family day of demonstrations and exhibitions at sheep-shearing time. As the weather gets warmer during May, our rare breed sheep no longer need their fleecy coats and it’s time for shearing.  This includes shearing the six rare breed rams – among them, Jupiter the Jacob and Boris the Badger-faced! The different breeds mean the fleeces vary considerably and have different uses. We are delighted to be joined by the Sheep Show who will be doing the shearing and the International Feltmakers Association, the Chiltern Spinners, Dyers & Weavers, and local Knitters Anonymous who will be demonstrating the magical process of turning wool fibre into woollen cloth, yarn and garments using some of the wool from the breeds of sheep that you see at Green Dragon. Experience the ‘Spring Babies’ Event at Green Dragon Eco Farm during the Easter Holidays  The Green Dragon ‘Spring Babies’ event is a family friendly event and will host a variety of themed, educational and fun experiences and activities.  During the school holidays, there will be a full programme of animal encounters with lots of new babies to get close to, such as Oxford Sandy & Black piglets, goat kids, ducklings and chicks!  And the rare breed ewes are getting ready for our lambing season here at Green Dragon, so there’ll be plenty of new born lambs to bottle feed by the Easter holidays. Discovery Strolls will be held on the third Tuesday of every month, starting from Tuesday 17th April at Great Linford Manor Park at 2pm. Taking place at different locations across the city including Caldecotte Lake and Wolverton Mill, these will be short walks with plenty of stops and toilet facilities available on site. The Discovery Strolls will be suitable for people of all ages and abilities. They will be dementia, autism and ADHD friendly, with everyone welcome.
