Mayor James Lancaster cuts the ribbon to officially open Sora Lounge, the new shisha bar in Bletchley
When I think back over my time as Mayor so far, one word springs to mind: joy. Honestly, it’s been a real privilege (and a lot of fun) getting to meet so many amazing people, attend unforgettable events, and dive headfirst into the life of our city.
One of the best parts of the role? The community. Always the community. From helping MK Prep School celebrate its 50th birthday to handing out awards at the MK Inspiration Awards, I’ve been blown away by the sheer talent, creativity, and kindness that shines through Milton Keynes. It’s what makes this place feel so special.

As Mayor, my focus has been simple: building connections, championing growth, and celebrating what makes Milton Keynes unique. Whether it’s sitting down with local businesses, chatting with community groups, or listening to residents, I want to make sure this special year leaves a legacy we can all be proud of.
And let me tell you, our cultural scene is buzzing right now. More art. More music. More performances. More reasons for people from both inside and outside MK to come together and celebrate what we’ve got here. Every packed gallery, every lively concert—it shows just how strong our creative spirit really is.
Of course, none of this happens without our local businesses and entrepreneurs. That’s why I’ve loved supporting events like Meet of MK with MKFM. It’s a brilliant chance to see just how much talent and innovation we have right here in the city. The people behind these businesses are helping to build a strong, vibrant economy, and it’s something we can all take pride in.

Looking ahead, I’m excited. Truly excited. There’s still so much to celebrate, so much to promote, and so many people to support. Milton Keynes is an extraordinary city, and I’m honoured to play my part in helping it shine even brighter.
And before I go, I want to share a little personal challenge I’ve set myself (brace yourself). On Saturday 13 September, I’ll be abseiling a whopping 400ft to raise funds for my chosen charity, Camphill MK. Yes, 400ft. My legs are trembling already, but it’s for a brilliant cause and I’d love your support. If you can, please sponsor me—just click here to help make a difference.
Here’s to the rest of this incredible year—and to Milton Keynes, a city that never stops inspiring me.
