What a way to make a living! Brian Conley talks to Pulse’s Sammy Jones about working 9-5 with the Queen of Country and his return to Milton Keynes Theatre.

He is a nightmare to work with; sexist, egotistical and a lying, hypocritical bigot. Unsavoury traits that you wouldn’t usually associate with the deep-voiced, twinkly-eyed Brian Conley. But for the past few months, Brian hasn’t quite been himself; he has been putting bums on seats in London’s West End, starring as Franklin Hart in the smash-hit musical 9 to 5. In theatre-land where ‘must-see’ shows with glowing reviews tempt you on every other street corner, 9 to 5 has proven the real hot ticket. A show created by Dolly Parton that utilises the talents of Brian is a heady mix..

‘Excalibur’ sword found at Willen Lake

Last week, staff working at Willen Lake in Milton Keynes made an extraordinary discovery – what they believe to be an ‘ancient’ sword. Cassius Whiley-Morton from Aqua Parcs felt a solid object hit his foot when clearing the park on Friday 23 August at approximately 8.20am. Cassius said: “I looked down and could see something reflecting the light from the surface so I reached down and felt something solid and heavy.” Cassius held onto the side of the inflatable park and with one motion, drew the object from the bed of the lake. “There are still massive things for us to do”

Taking a book on holiday is hardly exceptional. Millions of us pack an engrossing page-turner to enjoy during some downtime spent on the beach, or poolside. Pete Winkelman is no different, and during his recent summer break he worked his way through five books. But there wasn't a fluffy work of fiction, or an autobiography in sight. His chosen subject matter? Physics. “Quite a few years back, on a visit to the OU in Milton Keynes, the late Colin Pillinger and his team talked to me about physics in a way I'd never thought about before,” Pete remembers, “Ever since..

Newport Pagnell is the Best of British

I’m always so proud of Newport Pagnell and being driven through town in our carnival parade, courtesy of local motor company Aston Martin, gave me a special view of our townsfolk as they lined the route. The theme of our 59th carnival was the “Best of British” and was a celebration of many aspects of British culture.  Many of those cheering the parade have lived here a long time, but I know others were new to town and experiencing it for the first time. In June, the town council hosted our..
